March 2016 Goals

February was an extremely busy month and had a ton of ups and downs.  The last time I wrote my monthly goals, my blog was on another site!  Crazy what all has happened this month.  I want to jump right into how I did on February goals, and then I’ll share my new goals for March.

February Goals Review:

1. Lose 4 pounds – Sadly, I did not lose 4 pounds.  I did not work out a lot this month either.

2. Finish my book, The Slight Edge.  I did finish this book.  I loved it and it was really inspiring in all aspects of life.  It’s proof that the slight edge (small positive changes) will make a HUGE difference financially. One word, compound interest!  This also applies to every area in your life.

3. Do 2015 taxes – We did not do this, but hopefully Ryan and I will have some time to work on this over Spring Break.  My goal is to finish my part by Monday of Spring Break (March 8).

4. Start a new program for tracking my sales/expenses.  Nope.

5. Add new signs – No, but it took every bit of time just to keep up with orders, while also doing some things with my blog.

6. Wake up around 7 (at least 30 minutes before kids) – The first week was great.  After that, back to my old bad habits of getting things done late at night 😉

7. Schedule dentist appointment for myself and Beckham – 🙁

8. Explore new grocery stores.  If you’ve been reading along this month, you’ve seen my posts on each grocery haul, as well as my meal plans.  I posted Weeks 1, 2, and 3, and will explain the last week here in a bit.  My goal was to stay closer to our $400 monthly budget.  I visited Walmart, Aldi, and Winco.  I’m not really sure I saw big differences between the three, but I’d like to still explore Aldi more.  Week 4 was back at Walmart and I spent $75.68, as well as $47.12 at Sprouts.  Making our total budget for the month $511.00.  I really think I’m buying too much food (my eyes are bigger than my stomach).

9. Finish bathrooms – I did finish the middle bathroom and showed the before and after HERE.  I was going to give the master toilet area (the area we’re redecorating) an extra coat of paint, but I decided not to and will hang up the shelf today to finish off the makeover.

10. Plan some birthday shindigs!  I had a great birthday this year with friends and family and got some amazing gifts as well.  I feel blessed and am enjoying my new “toys.”  I got a bike trailer/jogger (I can finally run with the kids), my Ninja Coffee bar (which I’m loving), and Meaningful Beauty regimen (the line by Cindy Crawford…I’ve always wanted to try this, so I’m excited).
Normally I’d be disappointed with the lack of goals I accomplished, but I accomplished some other unexpected things that we’re very beneficial.  Two things that REALLY took over my time this month were switching my blog over to Word Press and moving the playroom into Beckham’s room so I can have an office.  My goal in January was to email some people to get my blog rolling in a more professional manner and ended up moving quickly.  Quick was a good thing, but there was (and is) a lot of learning.
I also really evaluated my productivity (or lack there of) with my office out in the breakfast nook area.  When I first started my Etsy shop, I didn’t really know how much I’d be working.  Beckham was only 1 year old when I started, so I didn’t have to worry about 2 active boys destroying all my stuff out in the open 🙂  Bottom line, it wasn’t working in the breakfast nook anymore.  I’ll go into more detail about the whole makeover and switch, but there has been A LOT of demolition and DIY’ing in the last couple of weeks!  Here’s what it looks like now…

Now onto this month…

background, bag, book, business, coffee, cup, desk, document, earpiece, equipment, filter, glasses, group, image, interior, leather, many, note, notebook, object, office, paper, pen, pencil, stationery, table, top, view, vintage, work, workspace, 2016, goals

MARCH GOALS:

SLEEP – Get 7 hours of sleep.  Again, I think this is really dependent on how well I can create a morning and nightly routine.

FAITH – Consistently read my Bible in the morning.  I’m actually creating a space for this in my office.  It will be cozy, ready for me to read (having materials ready to go), and quiet.

BLOG – Stay on course with an online blogging course I’m taking, and so my goal is to complete the units and assignments.  I finally invested in some classes that will teach me how to become a better blogger, etc.

KIDS – Implement a chore chart.

HEALTH – Get back in the gym and/or run!  Ultimately, I love the gym, but with two little ones it’s hard to be there every day.  Now with my running jogger, I can at least go for a run with them.

HOUSE – Complete office so it’s workable.  My goal is to create a feminine office, but the current furniture I have is not that…I’ve spent a lot of money lately on house things, so this may have to wait.  I’d at least like to get into the new room and start working.  My first goal with this room is to install the wood planks.  If this doesn’t become a complete DIY fail, I’ll share this whole process with you and how I saved hundreds by doing it myself.  Literally, every single detail and renovation has been done by ME!  Sometimes a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.  This has to work!  If I get to our breakfast nook at all this month, it will be complete bonus.

In addition to the above, my goal is to start my zone cleaning routine so I don’t feel overwhelmed.

I wanted to keep my goals a little more simple this month so I can view these at a glance and be more focused.  And sometimes, focusing on a few things makes a bigger difference than trying to accomplish 20 things.

I think at different times in my life, certain things become more important than others.  I’m really invested in my home right now.  It’s where I spend my days taking care of my children and building a business and I need that to be a place I feel good.  We didn’t change anything the first several years we were in this house (and I’m okay with that…sometimes that’s the smart plan), but it feels good to make some changes to harbor my style change over the years, as well as this season of life.

On a similar note, are there ways you find it easy to keep a clean, organized home?  Please share.

Here’s to a great month!  Regardless, it’s going to be good because the Mr. is FINALLY done with his crazy basketball schedule!  He has one last shindig this month, but we’re going with him to make a family vacation out of it!  I’ve made it through another volleyball/basketball season!  I’m thankful for a husband who is willing to work hard for his family!

Wahoo!!! Girl! You should be celebrating! As a busy mom of two, wife, husband who’s been gone during basketball season, working from home…you have a lot on your plate! Just crossing one goal off that list is an accomplishment! Way to go, friend!! I can’t wait to see your plank wall. I’m crazy impressed already!!
