Bathroom Makeover

I’m really excited for this week!  It’s my birthday week and I’m pumped about celebrating.  Tonight I get to hang with my girlfriends, eat dinner, and watch The Bachelor.  I’ve had a headache pretty much all weekend, but it’s subsided this morning!  Lots of water is on my agenda today.

I mentioned in my 2016 Goals post that I am going to embrace the house we’re in and make some changes this year to create a fun, “new” house.  I really do love our house, but my decor style and needs have changed since we bought it 9 years ago.  It’ fun and I’m enjoying it.  I’m relying on the power of paint to transform different rooms in the house.

Our first project was the bathrooms.  I finally finished the guest bathroom (which is also the boys’ bathroom).  The main change I wanted was to paint it a different color.  We decided on Benjamin Moore Smokey Taupe.  And I’m now obsessed with this color.  There is no natural light in this room, so it had to go well with the lighting currently in there.  Along with the paint, we changed up the decor.  I’ll show you the before and after pictures with some details.

And here are some after shots…

Paint Color: Benjamin Moore Smokey Taupe

White shelves: Target

Mirror: Kohls

“BATH” letters – Hobby Lobby

Wicker basket on shelf: Hobby Lobby

Green plant: Target

Wire Decorative piece (above toilet): Hobby Lobby (I spray painted it white)

I added some white towels to this basket and put some spray and a cross I already had on the shelf.

The BATH letters were my favorite addition.  The white cabinets weren’t staying against the wall very well (the top on at least), so I secured the back with some command sticky tape.  I also secured each letter, so they didn’t tip over, with some tape.  If you look close you can see the tape against the wall and behind each letter.

I also added this silver container to coral all the items on the counter top.  I’m not sure I like this entirely, but it works for now and is nice to hold all the items in one place.

I really like how it turned out.  My goal was a light, fresh, more open look and I think I got that.  I also added a Nate Berkus mocha gray rug (from Target) for the sink, but forgot to take a picture.  I might eventually change out the iron piece on the wall with a wreath, but I couldn’t find the wreath I want, so that will do for now.

Looks great. The paint definitely looks better than what was on the walls before. We are finishing up a redo on our master bath which had the same sink cabinet and counter in it from 1993 when my father originally redid it. House was built in the late 70’s. He painted and changed some decor about 6-8 years ago and I didn’t like any of it when we moved in here. (My father moved in with his fiancé last April and we moved into my childhood home here at the same time. ) My husband and I are on the same “love the home we’re in” kick while we try to save money for our own house some day.

Looks great! I’m in the middle of redecorating two of our bathrooms (the kids’ and the guest) and I needed some decor inspiration. Love the paint color.

    I love it, Olivia!
    The “Smokey Taupe” was a game-changer. 🙂
