DIY Coasters

I have a very large family and coming up with gifts for everyone can get expensive.  Gift giving is my love language and I thoroughly enjoy buying and making gifts for others.  Thank goodness for Pintrest this year!  I landed on these coasters for part of people’s Christmas gifts.

I decided to make these coasters for all my immediate family members, my in-laws, and my aunt, personalized to them.  They all LOVED them!  I gave my siblings and aunt four each (I have 2 sisters and 1 brother), my in-laws 5, and my parents 7, since they have so many kids.  Check out the looks on my parents faces when they realized what they were!

Unfortunately, I did not take pictures of how I made them, but they’re super easy.
All you need is:

1. 4×4 inch tiles (I bought mine from Lowes for $0.33 each)
2. Pictures (I just printed tons at Wal-Mart)
3. Modge Podge (Wal-Mart or Hobby Lobby has this).  You will have to cut these down to fit tiles.
4. Sponge brush
5. Felt fabric (they cost 4/1.00 at Hobby Lobby…I bought 2 sheets and ended up using 1). You will cut this fabric into little squares.  I know they have pre-cut fabric, but this was WAY cheaper.
6. Glue gun and glue sticks (Wal-Mart has a small, cheap glue gun for around $9)
How to make coasters:
1. Cut picture down to fit tile (about a half inch inside the border).
2. Spread Modge Podge on tile and glue picture on top.
3. Do the rest of your tiles while each one has a few minutes to dry.
4. Spread a thin layer of Modge Podge on top of pictures/tile.  I used 3 coats on top to really seal it.
5. Glue 4 felt pieces on the bottom of each tile.

6. I tied a ribbon around the tiles to give to each person.
I gave each of my parents these homemade cinnamon sugared pecans with the coasters.  We got them each a gift, but this was their “couple gift.”

Cost of coasters:

Tiles – 28 (coasters) x $0.33 each = $10.01 (with tax)
Pictures – 28 x $0.19 each = $5.32
Modge Podge – $4.99
Felt – 2 sheets x $0.25 each = $0.50
Sponge Brush – Pack of 5 = $1.29
Total Cost – $22.11/28 = $0.78/coaster
*would be even cheaper if you bought only 1 felt piece and already had modge podge
