I decided to give Ryan 12 little gifts 12 days before Christmas. I made the decision the day before I would’ve started, so I wasn’t very prepared, but it worked and he was excited to see what treat he would get each day.
He received a gift that coordinated with that day. So whatever day it was (1st, 5th, 12th, etc..), he got a gift that had to do with that number. It didn’t always have to be that many items. I would love to do this again next year, and even for our kids when they’re older.
Here are the gifts I gave him each day!
“On the 1st day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…ONE Sonic drink.” |
“On the 2nd day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…TWO favorite candies.” |
“On the 3rd day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…a THREE hole pencil bag.” I had to stretch the “3” a bit…Ryan has tons of markers/pens because he grades with them and uses them for color coding our budget and his calendar, so this was to house them all. |
“On the 4th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…a FOUR featured spiral.” Again, I stretched it a bit, but we were needing a new spiral for our budget. You could get a 4 Subject Spiral Notebook |
“On the 5th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…5 gum.” |
“On the 6th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…SIX pack abs from home.” |
“On the 7th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…SEVEN granola bars.” |
“On the 8th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…8 Colored Pens.” |
“On the 10th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…TEN Colored Markers.” His old ones were fading and he uses these daily! |
“On the 11th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…$11.00 to Smoothie King.” I know it says Smoothie Factory, but I wrote this before I went there and got it here instead. |
“On the 12th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…TWELVE reasons I love you.” I didn’t end up doing 12 reasons from Beckham. I posted these reasons on my blog for him to read when he gets home. |
It was fun giving him these presents, but next year I’ll have to think ahead and buy them in advance. These gifts ended on the 24th because I knew I wanted to get him an actual Christmas present on the 25th.
If you have any other suggestions for the days, please feel free to share below. I could use some more ideas.

We did this last year for our kids…8 and 5. Started at 12 to work down to a big 1…12 candy canes, 11 things from PetSmart (things for a our new goldfish tank), 10 pieces of celery, 9 hugs from parents (not the biggest hit:), 8 Reese Trees, 7 Christmas Rice Crispy treats, 6 Christmas pencils, 5 packs of gum, 4 tubes of Chapstick, 3 trip to McDonalds, 2 slippers, and a trampoline for you to jump on. Very random things however they still talk about it today.

My sister and I did 24 gifts (Dec 1-24) for our mother for years. She would be so excited about picking a gift out of her box every morning, even after developing alzheimer’s her last 2 years of life which made her enjoyment even more special to us. This is a great idea for an elderly relative or special “shut in” to brighten their days!
