GROCERIES!  I didn’t even want to blog this because it was so terrible!  What can I say, some months are good, some are bad!  I really honestly don’t know what I did differently and if I did change anything, I don’t believe I still would’ve hit budget.  We’ll have to evaluate this more and make changes.

Last week I was already over budget.  Adding two mid-week runs to it and I started this week at $396.12!!!!  I went to Walmart for our last grocery run and spent $58.09!  Bringing the grand total this month to $454.21.  That is the most we have spent EVER, that I can remember!  We did get a lot of meat deals this month, but even if I took away $50, it’s still WAY over budget (budget is $320).  I swear the price of groceries has gone up!  This amount just makes me gag!  I can’t wait for a clean slate to start with.

I would love to hear how much you guys spend on groceries and if you have any tips to keep it low relative to your family.

You dont even want to see my grocery bill. It's awful. I spent $135 yesterday, but $236 the week before. In my defense though… The $236 week had two cans of formula ($24/each), box of diapers ($30) and a bag of wipes ($5), then the rest was groceries. I need to get better and use coupons as much as possible but I still can't get it down! Plus, eating healthy is not cheap! You do a great job!!

I went over budget by $300 this month for food & home supplies. How on earth??? I don't think going to Sam's Club helped at all. 🙂

Love your posts on this. Inspires me to help stay on track.

It is not your imagination, I've been watching grocery prices for 33 years, ever since I got married.
And they are just high right now!
My budget is $600 a month, just 2 of us live here but my grands are here a lot and we often have guests. I don't always stay under it either.

I've been reading your food posts and loving them while laughing at the same time. We're a family of six with the teenagers so our weekly budget is half of your monthly budget. Some day you to many look at you monthly budget and sigh. I'm loving most of you tips, except the Wal-Mart shopping, I won't buy food there for many reasons one of them being in spend less at Win-co (I think it may have something to do with Wal-Mart's lay out, but our Win-co prices are within pennies of Wal-Mart's. I won't go into the many other reasons, but I'm glad a few people still find what they need there.)

As I start a few new goals and continue on with others I'll be adding many of you tips to my list. Thank you for sharing your learned knowledge with so many of us.

Jennifer thank you for reading! Yes, I know it is quite comical if you have a family of your size. I grew up with a family of 6 as well (7 since I was in 8th grade) and our grocery bill was crazy! My parents laugh when I tell them how much we spend now. I know our grocery bill will increase or I will have to make some changes when shopping as our family grows.

You are definitely not the first to comment about Walmart. We don't have Win-co, but I've heard it's a great store for prices. We have an Aldi in Texas too that I hear has some great prices as well..not close enough to us though. For us, it has been beneficial. We actually shop probably 50-60% of our shopping there (mostly mass produced items) and shop at Kroger, Tom Thumb, Albertsons, Sprouts, and Market Street for other items…whatever is on sale. Thanks again for commenting!
