How to Make the Perfect Egg for an Egg McMuffin

I love egg McMuffins at McDonald’s, except it’s always hit or miss with the egg – sometimes cooked through, sometimes not.  And with any fast food, you never really know what is in your sandwich or who prepared it.  So, I decided to make my own and wanted to share with you how to make the PERFECT EGG for your egg sandwich.

egg sabdwich

Ingredients:

  1. English Muffin (I use Oroweat extra crispy, white…I can’t stand whole wheat)
  2. 1 slice of cheese (I use Sargento very thin mild cheddar)
  3. 1 egg (cage free of course)
  4. 1-2 slices of deli ham (I use Boar’s Head Honey Glaze)
  5. Salt (optional)
  6. Green Pepper (optional)

Directions (HOW TO MAKE THE PERFECT EGG):

  1. Grab a small bowl about 3 inches in diameter.  I use a small ramekin.  *Update: Spray the bowl with cooking spray (or rub coconut oil around bowl).  This allows for really EASY clean-up (otherwise the egg sticks to the bowl).
  2. Scramble 1 egg using a fork or whisk (you could even add a little egg white for a bigger egg)
  3. Add a few cut up pieces of green pepper or spinach (optional)
  4. Lightly salt the scrambled egg.
  5. Put in the microwave for 40-45 seconds.  DONE!
  6. Then you will just assemble your sandwich – Toast your muffin before you assemble, add cheese, ham, and egg!

Looks good- wondering if the egg comes out of that dish easily? I like eggs but I don't like scrubbing cooked on eggs.

Good questin Rhonda! The actual egg comes out perfectly, but as far as washing it…yes, you are right, it sticks to the bowl. I soak it in water right after I pull the egg out so it scrubs off easier. I use the coarse side of my sponge and it comes out fine, but I hate getting egg all in it…lol! I'm wondering if I spray it with Pam or butter if it wouldn't stick at all. I might try that.

Pam works great. I spray it before I whip the egg in my bowl every time. Slides right out. No mess. 🙂

Thank you so much for sharing this. I will be certainly trying this only with egg beaters instead and low-fat cheese because I can only have 27gms of fat a day.
