It’s been a really busy year so far in 2014. I had a lot of projects on my list. I was reading through my list and realized I have completed a lot of them, so I wanted to update the list and share some photos. Here is my original list with the projects I’ve completed so far.
2014 ORGANIZING PROJECTS:
–Organize master closet
–Sell items in guest room or find storage space for keepers
–Organize garage (create spaces in garage dedicated to needed storage/uses) -Organize files in filing cabinet
-Put manuals/warranties in organized binder
–Buy buffet table for dining room and utilize more storage (hoping the hubby agrees)
–Organize DVD’s into sleeves for more storage space in entertainment center
–Clear out guest closest –Clear out/organize dressers in room –Take old TV out of master bedroom and put in new TV
-Make photo books (Beckham 1 & 2 years, Honeymoon, Pregnancy #1)
–Organize Beckham’s closet/clothes (put in garage once there is space) -Put a new storage shelf (IKEA) and tall armoire in playroom for toy storage
–Hang wreath (sounds easy, but I had to create a hanger for it since it didn’t have one
-Refinish/stain front door
-Buy outdoor furniture for backyard and set up patio (possibly a fire pit)
Additional Projects:
–Master Bedroom – New bedding, replace recliner with bench, change out some décor
-Fire place – New décor above mantle
-Dining Room – We added a buffet table and now I need to add some décor and possibly a rug
-Turn B’s nursery into a big boy room (in the process)
-Spray paint owls and jewelry box white
-Decorate the wall above our big couch in living room (I’m taking the art that’s currently there and putting it in our bedroom, so I will need to replace it)
-Replace dining room chandelier
Big projects I’d like done, but we will have to really plan for financially are:
-Add an awning to our backyard patio
-Paint trim/baseboards in our house
-Paint kitchen cabinets white (this will also take convincing of my husband as he doesn’t like white and I on the other hand HATE light or medium wood color, which it currently is). The wood is chipping and something should be done, so I figure let’s go ahead and paint.
MASTER CLOSET: I organized our closet and got rid of a TON of Ryan’s shirts. It doesn’t look like it made a dent, but knowing shirts that were not being worn are out of the closet feels good! My hubby does not get rid of anything so this was huge! I need to purge again (I usually do this twice a year) and will probably do this in a couple months when my stomach is getting back to normal. I don’t have a picture of the after, but here is how I like to organize my shoes…in clear bins…I labeled them for the after.
SELL ITEMS IN GUEST ROOM: We made about $500 selling all the items in the guest room to make room for the nursery. It was great because we used some of that to buy furniture for that room. Look at this before and after. You can read about the nursery HERE.
ORGANIZE GARAGE: We did this a while back, but I don’t have a picture for it. We only focused on the back wall since that is where all the storage was. We have 3 cars so we have to fit at least 2 of them in there, so we really have to make sure it’s organized well in there.
BUFFET TABLE IN DINING ROOM: Yay! We bought a buffet table and put it in our dining room. I MUCH prefer a buffet table to a china hutch in the dining room, but the Mr. and I had to compromise since he still wanted the hutch in there…even though it holds only 6 dish sets that are not even china…ahem! I have a completely different desire for this room, but I will have to wait to get an actual office until we move or the boys share a room. All I need to do now is decorate the top of the table with a few things.
ORGANIZE DVD’S: You can read about that HERE. I’m really glad we did this. Condensed this space to about a fourth the original space it took up.
CLEAR OUT GUEST CLOSET: Of course when transforming the guest room into the nursery, I cleared out all the junk that was in there and filled it with baby items.
CLEAR OUT/ORGNAIZE DRESSERS IN MASTER ROOM: I love purging and that’s exactly what Ryan and I did with our drawers. His clothes don’t even fit in the 6 drawers he has, so that was a challenge to get rid of things, but now they fit, but he can’t buy anything new 🙂 Here is how I like to organize my tanks! I can see what I have and it takes up less space. It’s time we do it again though, as well as our closet.
REPLACE OLD TV WITH NEW IN MASTER ROOM: I so wish I had a picture of the old TV. Y’all it was so old…I’m pretty sure it was from the early 90’s. It was so big and heavy that’s what was keeping us from doing it. Finally, my dad and brother came over and helped us move it. It’s so much simpler and nicer.
CLEAN OUT BECKHAM’S CLOSET: Cleaned it out and put away old clothes, got out new ones. It’s probably time for another purge once we enter Fall. He can pretty much fit in the same pants (2T) but needs new shirts. This was perfect because I took most of the stuff and transferred it to Maddox’s closet. Total bonus of having the same gender!
I love doing projects around the house and making our house a home! Ryan and I have very different styles so it makes it tough to decorate, but for the most part he let’s me do my thing. I find it important to take care of your house…this is where you will create so many memories with your kids, your spouse, friends, and family. Next on our list is the master bedroom updates…I’ll share them when we finish!
