Motivating Monday - A Deep Clean

This past weekend was fun! On Friday, I met my mom and niece at the mall and was able to find a swim suit (think shorts and tank) that will make it much easier to run after two boys at the pool. We had lunch, cookies, and rode the carousel.

We made it home for Maddox to nap. After nap, we met Ryan up at the gym. I worked out, while Ryan finished his workout and then took the kids to the pool while I finished up. I met them down there and watched some more thunder clouds roll in. Maddox is a dare devil in the pool apparently and I will most likely have a heart attack in the pool this summer.

After the pool, we headed out to dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant. We actually pulled up to try another Mexican restaurant, but it was so packed, there wasn’t even a spot to park. It’s definitely on our list for a week night meal I suppose. We sat outside and enjoyed the cool weather. Chips, salsa, and fajitas on a patio…it doesn’t get much better than that. This little cutie loves him some beans and rice also!

Saturday morning, I headed to a birthday party with Beckham. He had a great time and it’s always nice to spend time with just him.

Now, here’s where the “motivating” part comes in…I hope. So I debated posting this, but thought what the heck. Maybe it will motivate you or at least make you feel better about your own home.

I decided it was time to clean under and behind the fridge…you know, since it has been 9 years since I’ve done it. Yes, that’s right. I haven’t cleaned behind there since we moved in. How can a clean freak let that happen? Out of sight, out of mind? Whatever the reason, I knew I needed to do it.

Y’all! What in the world?! It was bad! Let me just show you…

And I felt like it was even worse in person. I’m so embarrassed but I’m nothing if not honest on this blog, so here you have it. I took approximately 429 disinfecting wipes (just kidding it really only took about 10) and wiped every square inch of space, including the base boards, walls, cabinets, underneath cabinets, back/sides of fridge, and cords. I vacuumed out the vents in the back of the fridge also. It is squeaky clean back there now.

I love seeing the before and after!

I then went around my counter tops and deep cleaned the counters, back splash, and every appliance or decor item on the counters. I thoroughly clean the kitchen daily, but it was good to deep clean all of that. A nice clean fridge and kitchen!

I then got to the microwave and noticed a disgusting film on the underside of it from all the cooking on the stove top. I scrubbed that as well and deep cleaned it! I need to clean that vent, but I’m not entirely sure how I should do that.

There you have it. Some deep cleaning for a little motivating Monday. Next up is the master bedroom, closet, and bathroom! If I remember, I’ll take some pictures of that process too.

We finished out the weekend with brunch at Ricks Chophouse downtown with my parents. My niece watched the boys so it was a glorious time out with just adults! I stuffed myself with all the goodness and could not move. I was beyond tired afterwards and just slugged around the house. Beckham got his first mowing lesson and we ate a bowl of cereal for dinner.

After a full week of rain last week, we’re looking forward to lots of sunshine the next several days. Have a great week!

Hi Olivia, As far as cleaning your microwave vent on the bottom…run some hot water in your kitchen sink and dump a scoop of Oxy Clean. I actually used some generic brand from the Dollar Tree. Let it soak for 15 minutes. There is no scrubbing involved and it comes sparkling clean!!!

I found one…actually bottoms are from Athleta and top is from Macy’s. I’ll see if I can snap a picture and share it.
