We had our first little adventure this summer in Grapevine at the Gaylord Texan! It was wonderful. We arrived there Friday afternoon and lounged in the hotel watching TV till dinner time (our AC unit was being fixed…not the best start, but I hate complaining to staff). We went to Macaroni Grill (best chicken parm) and then to Walmart to get a redbox movie and candy! 🙂 We rented Country Strong and Ryan fell asleep in the middle of it. I stayed up to watch the whole thing and thought it was pretty good. Not the best movie, but good. Here’s a picture of Ryan and I making excuses for our candy run.
“The baby wanted it.”
“Yea, the baby wanted it.”
So then on Saturday, we woke up to get some exercise at the gym. After our workout we grabbed lunch at Palio’s Pizza and then headed back to get ready for pool time. They opened their brand new water park called Paradise Springs. It was awesome! We actually had 2 extra wristbands so we asked our friends Jamie and Brian to come lay out with us and then go to church later at the Grapevine campus. We laid out a long time, but I lathered up really good so I wouldn’t get burned. I did pretty good. Got a little pink, but that’s not bad for me. We go in for our 4 month appt tomorrow and my doc is not going to be happy if he sees red though so I’m hoping it fades by tomorrow. The only picture we took out there is on Jamie’s camera so I’ll get that later. After pool time, we went to church and of course, it was amazing! I love my church and it’s creative juices! Side note: The best series is coming up in a couple weeks called “At the Movies” which I’ll blog about closer to the date. After church we headed to On the Border and shared some fajitas! We had $10 off and free queso so quite the deal! Then came back and watched movies while Ryan shopped for our next trip. Here is a picture of the lazy river at Paradise Springs.
Paradise Springs

On Sunday we slept in till 10:15! It was great. I love summer! Our checkout was at noon so we decided to pack up and get ready to lay out again at the Paradise Springs pool until whenever. So we checked out and went to the pool. It was a little bit better than Saturday because there weren’t as many people there. I ordered lunch there and it was SO good. I got the turkey burger with french fries and a lemonade. It was priced ridiculously, but we did a good job with every other meal so didn’t feel so bad about it, plus it’s vacation. Here’s me eating my burger while laying out UNDER the umbrella (I’m a wimp and couldn’t take the heat).
And here’s Ryan enjoying the sun and his book!
After we had enough sun, we headed to my parents’ house to eat some pizza and watch the Mavs game! And I really don’t need to say more….WAY TO GO MAVS! BEST DAY EVER!
I have to give credit to my husband for finding great deals so we can splurge this summer. They had an educator’s discount (thanks to my mother-in-law, Glenna for telling us about this) and we had either a gift card or coupon for most of the meals and brought banana bread for breakfast, SO we had roughly a $750 trip for about $375! And after seeing how many couples and families were there, I would say the economy is not hurting that bad. Or just going into more debt. It’s actually kind of fun to see how much you can save and it makes those purchases so much sweeter!
