This past Saturday Beckham turned 5! There is something so different about 5 to me. I feel like it’s the start of being a big kid. Maybe because it’s the year most start Kindergarten, but I’ve heard great things about the age of 5 so I’m pumped.
We celebrated by having his party at Obstacle Warrior Kids. It’s an obstacle course similar to American Ninja Warrior, but for kids. It was the perfect little party for him and he had a blast.
These were the invitations I created for his party.
And here are some pictures from his party. Ryan took a lot more, but these are just from my phone. We brought our good camera, only to find out there was no memory card in it.
This was the night before my “baby” turned 5! His last night as a 4 year old.
These two! My world. I’ve been asked twice now if they are twins??? Granted they were sitting in a cart when asked.
If this doesn’t sum up Beckham, I don’t know what does.
This picture above is of us singing Happy Birthday. As you can tell, he’s intently looking at his candle. Well, before we had cupcakes, I bent down and asked him if he was having fun. He replied, “Yes, but I’m nervous.” I asked why and he said “because people will sing Happy Birthday to me and look at me.” He has never liked this, but I thought he’d grown out of it. I told him to just look at his candle the whole time while we were singing. And he did just that. Never took his eyes off and quickly blew it out. I wish I knew how to post the video here. It was funny.
He had the best time and we are so thankful for all of his friends who could make it out and celebrate with him. I love this kid so much and I’m grateful for friends and family who love him too.
Each year, I write a letter to Beckham on his birthday. Here’s this year (age 5).
Dear Beckham,
I’ve honestly been really excited to see you turn 5, but it’s also a reality check that you are growing up and will one day be a man on your own. Your 5th year of life was awesome. You are my fiery kid…you take after me. You’ve actually tamed down quite a bit this last year, which, I’m not a gonna lie, has been a little relief. I have absolutely loved watching you develop and become a big kid (in my eyes).
You are funny. Really funny. Sometimes your goofiness gets you in trouble, but I hope you always aim to make people laugh. You are a social butterfly. As soon as we hit the parking lot at preschool, you are on the hunt to find any and everyone you know and give a shout out. You definitely prefer playing with someone…all day, everyday!
You do not like hugs. Your love language is definitely NOT physical touch. You prefer a high five as to not appear rude. Most of your friends know this and avoid hugs, although every now and then you’ll throw one out there.
You randomly have night terrors. Daddy is good at getting you back to sleep. You sleep with your bunny. I just want to thank you for being an amazing sleeper. You go to bed between 8-9pm and don’t wake up till 8:30 or 9:00 (I typically don’t let you sleep past 9). And 6 out of 7 mornings, I am getting you up.
You’re also a pretty good eater. You’ll at least try food even if you end up not liking it. You do like your sugar though.
You and Maddox have become really close this last year, but boy do you guys fight a lot. You sure do love him though and are protective of him. You’re a great big brother and help me help him with a lot of things.
You have this maturity about you that you just “get things”. I can look at you and you know what I’m thinking (something I think only an adult would get). You are smart and love learning. You learned how to write your name shortly after turning 4 and are showing an interest in reading now. You also really love to color and are really good at it.
You are really excited about Kindergarten next year and have been asking about it often. I honestly think you are going to thrive in an environment that is busy! Boredom is not good for you and you like to be doing something at all times.
You started soccer this year and really like it. Watching you play is probably going to be on my favorite, if not favorite, things to do with you. I can’t wait to see what this next year holds.
Here are your stats from your doctor’s appointment:
Weight: 66% Height: 67%
I love you more than words can describe!
Love, Mommy

Awww! Happy birthday Beckham! That’s so funny about the happy birthday song, because I’m the same way! Glad he had a great day!

So sweet!! My daughter recently turned seven, and I agree that they seem much more like “real” kids around five. She really started to be able to do things for herself around then.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
