This week was such a great week. Something that’s been on our “To-Do” list for quite some time was finally crossed off. We’ve been looking for the perfect car for at least 6 months now and have been actively saving for over a year as well. We looked at several SUV’s and test drove a handful of them. My top two were the Honda Pilot and GMC Acadia. I really liked both, but every time I got inside the Acadia and turned around, I was in love with the interior (they have captain seats)!
Last Friday, Ryan found an Acadia at a local dealership (we were thinking about traveling out of state to purchase one) for sale. It was a good price and had 30,000 miles on it. So after test driving the Pilot that day, we headed over to test drive and check out the Acadia. It was perfect. The interior. Oh the interior! So beautiful and luxurious…to me 🙂 It’s been 11 years since I had a “new” car. I had been driving a Toyota Corolla since college and it feels great to get a new car. Let me just say that Corolla was an awesome car. I never had any problems with it than the usual battery change and a clock issue (that I didn’t even bother getting fixed). It has 118,000 miles on it and still runs great. I’m kind of sad to let it go. I’ve been feeling spoiled in the Acadia. Literally, I feel bad for driving around in a new car…what is wrong with me???
You know the good thing about being patient and frugal? When you finally do get something nice, you appreciate it that much more. God truly did bless us with this car. So many things lined up and were planted perfectly for us to have this car and I’m so thankful. This car is a 2013 Acadia. I look a hot mess, but this was at the dealership right after we bought it. It’s a gun metal gray with light tan interior.
I meant to take some good pictures of it for this post, but these were just a few I snapped that evening. Beckham loves running through the seats and keeps asking to sit in the back. There are so many things that are different for me driving an SUV. I’m pretty terrible at parking right now. It’s super hard to fit in our garage (we’re going to have to figure this out…any tips?). I feel like I’m in a truck. But I actually love it.
We went to a splash pad today and I was able to change both boys into dry clothes in the trunk space, which was awesome. I also don’t have to bend down and put them in a car seat. It looks brand new inside…never would think it’s a used car. We are really loving it. I truly just feel so blessed.

Your car is gorgeous! I love the color and the interior! So many heart eyes emojis! I drive a tiny car and I know it'd be a huge adjustment to switch to an SUV, but I do love them! I'd struggle so much with parking at first too, I'm sure.

Did they give you a hard time about paying cash? We paid cash for my mini-van and I can't tell you how many times they praised the benefits of financing and tried to get us to make payments!

Hey Dedra,
Not so much a hard time, but when we went in saying we had X-amount and were going to pay cash, they tried to get us to finance the rest if we couldn't afford that price. Paying with cash (and not going above that at all) makes it pretty easy to "negotiate," We had our price and if they couldn't match it, we had to walk away. It's amazing though how they so easily waved around the idea of financing if "we couldn't afford the rest." They just didn't get it.

Congrats on your new wheels! We just bought a used wheelchair van last year and we paid cash for it. We had the exact same experience you did at the dealer. They tried to sell us one more than what we wanted to spend it said we could finance it however I told them in no uncertain terms that we were not going to spend over this amount or we weren't going to do it at all. It's amazing how you get exactly what you want when you pay cash. I just love that. So we walked away with a great deal as well spending only what we wanted. We feel as if God had everything lined up as well. We haven't had any problems at all and it's super nice. Congratulations to you guys on getting a great deal as well.
