Dear Maddox.
Oh dear Maddox Cade! You are generally a happy baby and actually pretty easy during the day. But your “night life” is killing me. You sleep just how the books say you should sleep during the day, but for some reason, you have not adapted to sleeping through the night like they say you should right now. This is all new to me because Beckham was sleeping through the night at this point. I’m really hoping this phase ends soon, because I’m so sleep deprived, I feel like a zombie. It’s so bad, I left you in the hallway when I was dropping your brother off at preschool and forgot to take you with me when I was leaving. I noticed halfway down the hall and turned around to get you. I mean, that’s pretty bad! For your own safety, please go to sleep! Last night I went to bed at 4AM!!!! For the first time, 4AM! I’m averaging about 4-5 hours a night, mostly broken.
Other than the sleep, you are very happy. You smile a lot. You like to be held quite a bit. You take a pacifier, but have been sucking your hands a lot lately. You run errands like a pro! Love you to pieces!
Measurements: At your 2 month appointment you were 14 pounds 11.5 ounces (90-95%), 24.25 inches long(85-95%), and 16 inches head size (90-95%).
My favorite thing: When you smile at me! And when you sleep during the night.
Daily Activities: Your day consists of eating, “playing”, and sleeping. Your wake time is basically sitting in my lap “talking”, sitting in bouncer watching brother play, tummy time on your boppy, laying on your play mat looking at toys, or chasing your brother as your dad holds you. We run more errands now than before and you are great while we’re out.
Eating: As of now, you eat every 3 hours during the day (sometimes 3.5 if you’re sleeping). We offer about 5 ounces at each feeding and you eat about 4-5oz of it. Since you’re still waking 1-2 times at night, you will eat 6-8 times a day. I’m thinking about increasing your bottles to see if you might sleep better through the night. I read a good rule of thumb was 2.5 oz per pound of baby. Since you’re about 15 pounds, you would need 37.5 ounces a day. If you ate 6 times (hopefully eliminating the night time ones), you would need about 6 oz. in each bottle. I know this is all math jumbo, but I wish I had been detailed in B’s posts as I read those often trying to figure out how much I should be giving you.
Sleeping: To sum it up, you sleep great during the day and horrible at night. Your first two naps you go back down after about 1 hour of being up. You sleep the last 1.5-2 hours of each eating cycle during the day. You take 4 solid naps during the day and then a small one in the late evening before your dream feed around 10:30/11 and sadly, you wake up at random times throughout the night. After your last feeding of the night, I feel like you wake up 2-3 hours later. We try to soothe you back to sleep, but it usually ends up in a meal. Then back to bed (after lots of crying and soothing) and then you’re up again a few hours later. Your longest stretch of sleep at night is after that middle of the night wake until morning. Your night sleep habits are killing me.
