Today I’m linking up with The Larson Lingo, Pinterest Told Me To, and Mix & Match Mama to answer the questions below. And the bonus question is “What is your favorite Thanksgiving recipe?”
October has flown by. All the good months do that 🙂 Here’s what’s up lately.
WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
I’m trying to watch what I eat lately and really trying to look at my macros with My Fitness Pal. I wouldn’t say I’m dieting, but I’m definitely planning out what I eat and trying to get a lot of protein and fiber in my diet! This is such a terrible picture, but I snapped it mid-dinner because it was so yummy! High Liner Tortilla Crusted Tilapia (from Costco). 1/2 cup of white rice with a couple dashes of soy sauce (I used my rice cooker for the first time and holy moly…why have I not been using that). And my new obsession is the broccoli. It’s Birds Eye broccoli with Ranch Flavoring. It’s a microwaveable steam bag. I usually shy away from any convenience foods, but that has landed me in an unhappy place with my weight (because I end up eating crap just to fill my tummy). So this works for now. I inhaled this in probably 3 minutes!
WHAT I’M REMENISCING ABOUT:
I’m totally reminiscing about the days when Ryan and I would go to the gym with each other! We have been dying to go and workout together, but there is no possible way with the kiddos and our schedules. We both miss that! Ryan and I pre-kids in our workout days! I was just thinking at the gym how much harder it is for moms to workout, especially with young kids. When I drop them off at the child care there, I feel so guilty and Maddox doesn’t always do well, so it interrupts my workout. And that is IF we can get to the gym (there seems to always be some illness or mishap that requires us to stay put). I am more proud of myself for getting to the gym these days than ever before!
WHAT I’M LOVING:
I am loving these stages with the boys! They have their ups and downs, but the ups sure are incredible. Maddox is just so stinking adorable and starting to really show his personality. Beckham has definitely been my wild child and requires A LOT of work, but I’m starting to see him grow up a little and become this little kid. It’s both sad because I see how quickly it’s going, and awesome because, let’s face it, this stage is a lot easier for me than 24 hour care!
WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
Birthday parties, the Pumpkin Patch, Fall parties, and gym time. My sister came in town last weekend so we had lots of family time with her. Ryan’s been gone a lot reffing so most of our weeknights are spent just the three of us. They’re tough, but I have a system down now (kind of)…Lol! We have been playing outside after dinner with our neighbors almost nightly. This weather has been amazing! We’ve also been visiting churches the last couple of Sundays. Here are some pumpkin patch pictures…
WHAT I’M DREADING:
I can’t say I’m dreading this, but I’m really cautious about the upcoming holidays. I know it will be super BUSY, but I want to really enjoy this time and feel like I’m accomplishing my goals at the same time. We have my mom’s birthday next month, Beckham’s birthday next month, Thanksgiving, and a bunch of fun holiday things planned. I’ve decided to throw a Girl’s Christmas Party (recipe exchange) this year. I’ve meant to do this the last 4 years, but it’s just been too much with young kiddos. November and December are my busiest months with my shop so that’s another thing to keep in check. I also have a lot of signs to add before then. And I plan on migrating to WordPress before the year is over so that will be crazy.
WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
I’m working on signs, signs, signs. I posted yesterday about what I’ve been working on this month. I’ve added a bunch of new signs. I’m also working on my body. Shedding the fat by lifting like crazy! Weights, weights, and more weights! I’m also working on Beckham’s party details (although it’s not too complicated), my Christmas party, and keeping a manageable home as always (the most time consuming of all things).
WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
The holidays. Duh! The best time of the year is approaching and I couldn’t be more excited! All I know is that I won’t be lugging around my pump, all the parts, milk, and pumping every 4 hours! Hallelujah! We travel a lot on Thanksgiving, so this takes a huge load off! I’m also excited about Beckham turning 4!!! I can’t believe it! This is him last year at his party.
WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING:
I am reading a book called Becoming the Woman of His Dreams by Sharon Jaynes (found this in my home library and it’s really good so far). I also just got Jen Hatmaker’s For the Love book in the mail last week, so I’m pumped to start that too. I am also watching a ton of workout videos on YouTube lately. And my shows that I squeeze in at night are Dancing with the Stars, The Voice, and Survivor.
WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
I listen to country in the car or kids music. And on Pandora, I’ve actually listened to some Michael Buble holiday music (I can’t help myself). I need to go buy Carrie Underwood’s new album, Storyteller.
WHAT I’M WEARING:
The weather has been great and I’ve been able to wear clothes without sweating through them! 🙂 Here is one outfit I shared last week.
WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
We’ve got Halloween of course. It’s supposed to rain so that might put a damper on our plans. We plan to go to something called Scare on the Square with some friends in our downtown on Friday. Saturday we have our First Annual Neighborhood Halloween party, which might be a total bummer if it rains! We’ve put some work into this so I hope the rain stays away for trick or treat time! We also have my niece’s birthday party on Friday, my mom’s birthday on Sunday, and one of Beckham’s friends birthdays on Sunday as well. Busy weekend…rain rain go away!
WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
Like I mentioned before, I’m really looking forward to Thanksgiving and Beckham’s birthday party! Thanksgiving food is by far my favorite! We’ll start our Christmas planning also. See HERE how we do Christmas without going into debt and how we organize gift giving.
WHAT ELSE IS NEW:
Not much else! Other than finding a new church, we’re up to the same old same old! This was Maddox after 5 minutes of church service when I got called to come pick him up because he was acting sick. This little toot just wanted his mama. He was such a ham as we watched the sermon at the outside the worship center. I was able to watch because he wouldn’t go further than 5 feet from me. #perfectkid He was smiling at every person walking by and soaking up the attention.
BONUS QUESTION – What is your favorite Thanksgiving recipe?
I don’t have a link for you, but my favorite food item on Thanksgiving is cornbread stuffing (with hardboiled egg whites). I plan on making a pumpkin cobbler (a dump cake really) and you will die! I will try to make it before Thanksgiving so I can share the recipe with you guys! Ryan’s family makes this amazing green jello with marshmallows and pineapple also. It’s so yummy. I’m a traditional Thanksgiving food girl! No fancy food, just the basics! If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it! Speaking of Thanksgiving, here is a cute way to decorate your table. Print out this 11×17 printable and use it as a placemat! Print on white card stock or plain paper. Laminate for use again next year.

Thanks for all of the updates this week! I am a semi-new reader and it's refreshing to find someone who appreciates "frugal" but not cheap. 🙂

Thanks Blake! Unfortunately my expensive taste does not line up with our frugal budget so we make it work the best we can 🙂 It's actually pretty cool to find ways to get cool stuff and stay within budget.

I am the same way… We always think "we can have almost anything, but not everything!" It makes the splurges feel special, as they should 🙂
