Last Saturday we went to the great State Fair of Texas. Our fair is absolutely crazy! I would love to match up our fair’s food with other’s states to see how they compare. The food is by far the best part. This year they had “Fried Thanksgiving Dinner.” Yes, we tried it, and yes it was good!
Beckham loved the fair, but will probably enjoy it a little better next year when he can sit and watch shows or walk “with us” and not try to “escape us.” He literally thinks it’s a game every time we put him on the ground…like we’re playing tag!
On our way to the fair…
They were handing out Twinkies when we first walked in…I LOVE Twinkies but NEVER buy them so we definitely grabbed one. Beckham tried a bite.
Fried Thanksgiving Dinner…our first stop! They give you 2 with gravy and cranberry sauce.
5 minutes in and he wanted OUT of his stroller.
Beckham is really into bumps right now and every one he sees, he has to jump over it. So he jumped over and over this bump. Yep, we’re at a fair and he jumps over bumps!
Next we went to see the animals
I was feeding the goats and the goat was spilling the food on the ground. Beckham was really upset about it…
Like really upset…
Then it was time for a Fletcher’s corn dog! I always have to have one when I go!
And then my FAVORITE part! Fried Oreos. These are hands down, my favorite thing fried at the fair!
We also got a Cuban roll. This was voted “Best Tasting” at the fair this year. It was good, but I just feel funny eating pulled pork at the fair. I can eat a corn dog, but the shredded pork not so much!
Ryan HAD to go look at the cars, specifically, the 2014 Corvette
Ryan went inside this log house…an entire house inside of a log…read the signs.
We were watching a robot inside the car room when another lady informed us that Beckham was scared and crying hysterically…I look down and see him screaming crying! We were behind his stroller watching and couldn’t hear him…it was a little embarrassing. So here I am, outside the car room, consoling him and telling him about Big Tex.
Your trip to the fair isn’t complete unless you have a picture with Big Tex!
We ended with corn on the cob! When I got my corn this woman came up to me and asked if I would give her a shot of me eating the corn for Discovery Channel. So I chomped away and nodded my head as if it was delicious…and it was! So look for me on Discovery eating corn at the State Fair of Texas!
We stayed about 2.5 hours and it was plenty of time for us with Beckham. Can’t wait till next year. I’m curious how other state fairs compare?
We ended our day with a date night! My mother-in-law watched Beckham for us, while we went to the new theater, The Alamo. It’s a dinner and movie type theater. We saw Captain Phillips…SO good! And ate pizza, popcorn, and a chicken sandwich. Needless to say, our tummies did not get adequate nutrition this weekend 🙂 When we go on a date, we take the Vette. Ryan finds it necessary to park away from everyone…anyone else have a significant other who doesn’t care how far they walk as long as their car is safe?

I live in MN and we have a great state fair! It's mostly about the food, but there are good exhibits and concerts and such. I've always wanted to go to the TX state fair to see how it compares!

Maria, you got me thinking that it would be a good idea to travel around the world and visit different state fairs! I wonder if they all fall around the same time…
