I thought I’d finally get on and explain life lately and do a catch up. I hate being so inconsistent with blogging, but there are a couple of reasons for why it’s been so lately. Of course, having a newborn puts a halt on a lot of things, especially while I’m a reffing widow at the moment (hubby gone most nights reffing basketball after his full time job each day). Another reason (and the main one) is that my computer has been f-u-n-k-y! It will not read my new phone and tells me I have “no content” when it does pull up. Therefore, I cannot access any of my photos to blog. The last few posts I’ve done, I’ve had to upload the photos separately in my WordPress app after I’ve written the post (including this one). Then there’s this…
For the past 3 months, I’ve had quite the array of medical problems. It started with simply recovering from childbirth and dealing with breastfeeding (it’s never gotten easier with each child)…and just the normal medical recovery. Then at 5 weeks, I got mastitis. This ended up plummeting my milk supply on that one side, which is now why we supplement with formula. I’ve had mastitis before and it never did that so I’m not sure why it did this time. It’s been an emotional roller coaster to have to use formula also. And if post partum wasn’t enough, as soon as you get over that hump, all your hair falls out! Why?!?! I’m missing all my hair!
Just a couple weeks later my tooth started aching so bad I was moaning as if in labor. By far one of the top 3 pains in my life. When it was all said and done, I came out with a root canal, but good golly it feels better (I still have 3 fillings that need to be done).
Shortly after that, I had one of my flare ups with my eye (where my eye waters excessively, it becomes irritated, and my eye gets extremely swollen/red/flaky/stings). It usually takes 2 weeks to recover from that. I went to the eye doctor today and found out it’s due to my astigmatism when I get dry eyes. Thankfully, I should be able to add some over the counter meds to it when I get a flare up. And I don’t have to get a new prescription, which is great (and B doesn’t need glasses at this time…he was worried). What my eye looks like when it happens…
And then just a couple of weeks ago, my left big toe started hurting. Come to find out, it’s an ingrown toenail. And because my right toe didn’t want to be excluded, it joined in on the fun too (so much so that I couldn’t walk one day), so now I have 2 ingrown toenails that I’ll be having “surgery” on next week to fix them. Anyone have this done before? I’m not sure what to expect. I assume it’s not too big of a deal (even with 2 toes), but I feel like the few people I’ve talked to were more concerned. I’m hoping it stays warmer so I don’t have to wear boots over them.
It’s been quite a doozy, but I’m thankful they are all things that can be fixed. It could be so much worse. I’m also getting a mole removed that I’ve had for years, mainly for cosmetic reasons, but it’s nice to know it’s going to be gone…it changed so much with each pregnancy.
When I wrote my goals for 2018, I wanted to be more actionable. #actionoverperfection Let me tell you that I have been knocking out the to-do’s and appointments this month.
Dermatologist Appointment
Eye Exam (for me and Beckham)
Set up Podiatrist Appointment
Dentist Appointment (still need to set up new one for fillings)
Oil Change (that was an adventure with 2 kids)
Set up Speech Screening Appt for Maddox (so much paperwork I still need to fill out)
Register Maddox for Pre-K (this took so much thought as I debated between 2 and 3 days…we went with 2)
Set up Cranial Tech Appt for Brielle (I’ll explain more about this later…getting her head evaluated for flat spots)…you can read about Maddox’s Doc Band HERE.
Sign up B for Baseball (still need to do this…requires I call doctor for date of shots).
It’s been tough finding time for all these appointments. I use to go during preschool days when both boys were gone, but now that I have Brielle, it’s a little more difficult. Thank goodness for my mother-in-law who has helped so much (as well as my parents).
In addition to all the tasks, I’ve been looking into computers and what would be best for lifestyle and business. Last week I finally bit the bullet and ordered a MacBook Pro. I’m currently in the process of setting it up as we speak and my goal is to have my shop back up and running by February 1.
As far as newborn goes, Brielle is such a good baby, but a baby is still difficult nonetheless. She’s doing more each day though and it’s really fun to watch her reach some milestones. She’s so precious!
February also means Ryan’s last full month of reffing!!! This has been a tough season (for both of us) and I’m so glad to have him back home at nights. Makes a world of a difference when he’s home. I’m so thankful for his hard work to bring in extra income so I can stay home with my babies!
Life’s been a little busy lately, but I’m still so thankful for the life I live and the support I have. I like having these posts to look back on though. Plus, I wanted to update the blog as I’ve continued my MIA status. Thank you as always for the support and understanding as I still adjust to 3 kids.
BIG NEWS – Stay tuned for some big news…I’m jumping out of my comfort zone and will share as soon as it happens (I’ll probably first announce on my Instagram). Any guesses?

Sorry to hear you’ve had some “not fun” things to deal with!
I’ve had the toenail issue and remember it being incredibly painful! Not the surgery, but before it. They took just a small part of the nail off and it was immediate relief. It’s been years ago, but I remember recovery being fairly quick. Good luck! (Not 1 thing causes it, but it came at a time when i wore pointy toe shoes everyday… I don’t think it was a coincidence.)
Random question- can you tell me more about your nails? They look beautiful holding your beautiful new computer. 🙂
Excited to hear your new announcement!

I think it was caused by wearing boots possibly. Because both toes happened at the same time.
And yes, my nails are the Next Gen nails from the salon. I get the white powder (no color) and have them shape them with a rounded square. I got them done before Christmas as a splurge, then Ryan bought me a spa day which included those nails, and my mother in law got me a gift card. So I have about 1 more time left before I stop because they’re too expensive. $35 each time I go and I have to get them redone every 2 weeks (my nails grow fast). They are perfect during this season of life when I’m constantly washing dishes/bottles and don’t have time to paint them.

Sorry you have had such a hard time! I have had ingrown toenail surgery on one toe, and actually my daughter did as well. Surgery wasn’t bad at all and to give you an example of how well it heals..my daughter (who was only in 5th grade at the time of the surgery – she did competitive dancing and they think that is why it happened) had surgery on Friday around 3 pm and ran a 5K the next morning! Trust me, any pain you have after surgery is nothing compared to the pain before the surgery! Good Luck!

Yay thank you for that…I’m afraid I’m downplaying it too much actually so hopefully that becomes true.

You are gonna love your Mac! My husband and I each have one through work. We love them. Also love Next Gen nails-they last through washing my hands and everything else life throws at them just about. Finally, we had to supplement with formula for both my boys. I sobbed and sobbed with my first, but in the long run-I wouldn’t have changed it. It worked for our family. In the end? I have two healthy, beautiful babies. That’s what is important. Just my two cents!

Thank you Sara! I’m loving my Mac so far. So many things are synced with my phone which is nice. I can’t wait to go get one more set of nails. I’m slowly becoming more comfortable with formula…what are ya gonna do right? I think I’m calling it quits at 6 months with pumping because I’m pretty miserable with it in general…mainly with how I feel physically. Anyhow, thanks for commenting!

Wow, it sounds like you’ve been through a lot and I can’t imagine going through all of that plus having a newborn! I had a bit of a rough year last year with two cataract surgeries and premium lens replacements ( they fixed my astigmatisms). I had dry eyes as well and learned I just needed to add some Refresh eye drops. Dry eyes are kind of like dry skin, it can come and go. Using those eye drops will make a world of difference. Your eyes were super irritated there! Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

Thank you Sue! I don’t know why I never thought of eye drops. I guess I didn’t think the watering was dry eyes but makes sense. I need to buy them now so I have them on hand as soon as they start watering. I hope your eyes are well now. That sounds intense

I’m really behind on my blog reading, so you may have already had the surgery and I may be too late with this! I have chronic ingrown toenails (and fingernails which actually feels worse I think!) and the surgery is really not that bad. I’ve had it done 3 times on my left big toe & twice on my right. My podiatrist said sometimes it just takes a few times for it to work. Anyway, the worst part for me is the numbing beforehand – but I have a low pain tolerance! As others have said it’s completely worth it. You feel so jig better! And your back to normal super fast. Good luck!
Lindsay says
Haha, so MUCH better. Darn autocorrect!
JoyfullyPrudent says
Hey! I actually had it last Wednesday and yes, the numbing was worst part (I have low pain tolerance too). But my toes are pretty sensitive still and still red/bloody (barely) on the sides where she cut. But I’d assume that’s normal since they instructed me to clean it daily and change the gauze. I go back on Tuesday for a follow up!
