This week started off rough with Maddox having a stomach bug, but he’s finally over it and we’re back into routine! Y’all I woke up SO late for MOPS today. AND I was supposed to bring food. I woke up when kids were supposed to be dropped off and texted my friend to let her know. She insisted I still come up without my food so I did. Talk about a true hot mess! My alarm didn’t go off, my kids didn’t cry to wake up…I have no idea. Going to bed at 2:30am totally made me pay! Here are some favorites from the week.
FAVORITE MOMENT
My favorite moment (besides Maddox getting better) was eating my lunch and watching my cooking show all by myself yesterday. The boys were at school and I usually go, go, go during that time, but I sat down right before I left to pick them up and had this delicious sandwich and watched The Pioneer Woman.
FAVORITE MEAL/RECIPE
We have been eating leftovers and anything we can find in the fridge this week, but I did enjoy that BLTT above. We had family over for the Cowboys game and I made some really good queso and a Butterfinger poke cake that is always my favorite (I forgot to take a picture of it with the cool whip and Butterfinger…just with the caramel and Eagle brand milk drizzled on top).
FAVORITE PRODUCT
I ordered this super cute shirt and it arrived in the mail this week. It fits perfect, is soft, and has the cutest saying on it: Jesus loves this hot mess! 🙂 Perfect attire for today!
I also have to mention my new favorite diaper rash cream concoction. I shared this on my IG this week, but here it is:
-1oz. Desitin maximum strength cream
-1oz. A&D ointment
-1Tbsp. liquid Antacid (like Maalox or Mylanta)
I wish I could show you the difference. His stomach bug completely took a toll on his little bum and it looked like his skin was literally burned off. The pediatrician’s office gave me this recipe and I love it. It made more than the picture shows, but this is what I have left.
FAVORITE FRUGAL TIP/EXPERIENCE
Not grocery shopping this week (well, not very much). The grocery budget is killing me lately and I’m doing a bad job staying within budget, so this week I’m trying to be really creative and use the food already in our house. I’m also putting off several things I want and need right now in order to stay in budget. And I’m starting to think ahead to Christmas and getting prepared for that since that’s always a HUGE cost!
FAVORITE BOOK / BIBLE VERSE / QUOTE
I’m nearing the end of Smart Money Smart Kids and it is SOOOO good! Here are a couple of good quotes from the book:
“Make sure your heart is full of gratitude for the blessings in your own life. Let your children witness this in you, and they will want to respond with gratitude for the blessings in their own lives.”
“Contentment is a manner of traveling. It’s an attitude of peace and joy where you are, even while you are working to be somewhere else.”
“Leaving adult children a great value system but little money is still a great legacy. But leaving adult children a great value system and wealth to impact and help others is a stellar legacy.”
Aren’t’ those good? A lot of people think I’m naturally frugal and enjoy it. NOOOOO! I most definitely do not enjoy NOT spending money and it is not natural at all to me. I struggle with contentment, but what I do enjoy is knowing we are spending our money wisely, not wasting it on interest or house payments, saving for an AMAZING retirement, and leaving a “stellar legacy” for our kids and their kids. We are blessed to be a blessing!
FAVORITE OUTFIT
Again, I didn’t take a picture of any outfit besides the one above, but I love this outfit I found on Pinterest. I cannot wait for cooler weather to wear some jeans a booties!
FAVORITE PIN
I didn’t pin too much this week, but I did pin this cauliflower pizza crust. I haven’t made it yet, but it looks pretty good.
Some other sweet moments this week. Beckham is my hilarious, independent boy, and Maddox is definitely my cuddle bug. I got extra cuddles this week and I’m just obsessed with this age!
And lastly, this special family has been on my heart lately. Madeline was just diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. She is in 7th grade and is one of the most precious little girls and her family is the best. I taught her older brother in 3rd grade. Madeline was in 3rd grade also when I was teaching, but she had my best friend, Kristen, for her teacher.
You can order a t-shirt (today is the last day) to help support them. Proceeds go to cancer research. Her parents also have a blog to document and share their journey. Most of all, keep them in your prayers. This was so shocking to find out and I am just hurt even more now that I have my own kids. I can’t imagine.
Hope you have a great weekend. I’m hoping for an overdue date night with Ryan and a relaxing weekend at home.

I grabbed the Smart Money Smart Kids book from the library and I'm obsessed! Some of the stats he lists are SHOCKING! I'm definitely taking notes of his kid tips. Now if only I could find a book about disciplining littles that I like as much!
joyfullyprudent says
Hahaha…if you find that book let me know 🙂 The stats in Dave's book are shocking. Have you read any of his other books? The stats in those are crazy too! Makes me feel really good about our finances. 🙂

Also can I be a total weirdo and ask what brand of bread, bacon and turkey are in your sandwich? It looks restaurant quality!
joyfullyprudent says
Haha not a total weirdo 🙂 I ALWAYS get Oscar Meyer Center Cut bacon. The turkey is Boar's Head Honeygold Oven Roasted turkey (or something similar) from the deli counter (shaved cut). And the bread…They are hoagie rolls…I can't remember the name (I'll have to look at store today). It's in the bread section and I always choose what's softest,
