I have to start this post off with a shout out to my friend, Connie, who price matched her grocery items and saved $30!!!! That is just awesome. If she price matches and saves even $25 each week, that’s $100 a month she’s saving! Awesome job Connie! I can’t wait to talk to her about it.
It’s week 2 of September and I’m not grocery shopping till Tuesday…eek! If you remember last week, we spent $$76.67 on groceries for the week. Unfortunately, we visited the store two times on top of that total ($21.12), so our total grocery bill before this week’s trip was $97.79. Since we budget $280 a month for groceries (almost always going over), I’d like to spend $60-70 each week for the rest of September.
Our menu plan for this week is:
Breakfast: Blueberry Muffins (gone now), egg souffles, oatmeal with fruit
Lunch: PBJ, Grilled Cheese with bacon crumbles (I have all this bacon I had to cook and get rid of), Wedge Salad (with bacon crumbles), Tuna, Turkey sandwich
Dinner: 6 meals planned, the other night is leftovers or dinner out (let’s just be honest, it will be dinner out)
Monday: Sweet and Smokey Turkey Burgers, Potato Wedges, Deviled Eggs (this dinner was good)
Tuesday: Tacos, Rice, Beans
Wednesday: Chicken Green Bean Potato Bake
Thursday: Turkey Sandwiches, Chips, Deviled Eggs
Friday: Chicken Enchiladas, Corn on the Cob
Saturday: Chicken Tacos
Sunday: Leftovers/Dinner Out
*These meals are more like our planned ideas, but usually change each week depending on if we grab take out one night or have a date night. Most every week, we don’t cook one of our planned meals so it usually rolls over to the next week.

We spent $19.90 at Albertson’s for meat (this will last us all month if not longer). We spent $5.92 at Kroger. And we spent $54.53 at Walmart. So a total bill of $80.35. It’s about $10-20 more than I wanted to spend this week, but I have to remember we bought all that meat for $20.
So far, we’ve spent $178.14 this month and we should last till September 16. Half way through the month. That means, we have $101.86 left in our budget to spend on groceries for the month of September if we want to stay within our $280 budget! Ooooh a challenge!
I will say we have been thoroughly enjoying our meals and not skimping too much on what we’re buying, so I’m sure if we really want to stick to that $101, we could. We’ll see.
2 things to add: I haven’t used any coupons yet. And if you’re wondering why we go to the store in the middle of the week, it’s usually on splurge items. For example, if we decide we want to make a dessert or find something on sale in the paper.
