Dear Beckham,
What a month this has been! I cannot express to you each month how much I love you! You are really becoming a “big boy.” I read your 9 month post and man have things changed. Well, still no teeth or hair, but you are walking! Needless to say, you look a little silly walking! You just don’t look like you should be cruising around on your own. This month started off with a few steps and each day you walked more and more! I cannot believe how fast you’ve carried on with it. It’s like when you discovered there was another way of getting around, you were off! You prefer this method of getting around. You crawled for a couple of months, but don’t much anymore.
This last month I would have normally gone back to school with the kids, but I’m not. I’m home with you. It was weird to see the community shift back into “school mode” and not be part of it. I will say though, running errands, visiting parks, and going to the library are much calmer now that everyone is back in school! We’ve started a couple new things this month. Every other Monday, I attend MOPS (it’s a church based mom’s group that gets together to have some fun and fellowship), which means you go to the nursery with the other babies. They said you did great. I love coming to the room and seeing you interacting with the babies and toys. You are a huge people person! I drop you off with no problems and when you see me return, you smile, but keep playing. Gee thanks! It’s like you’re perfectly content to keep playing. Another thing we’ve started is “Music & Movement” at the public library. You LOVE this class. You were obsessed with the teacher and kept staring at her singing. They had a parachute and you had so much fun. I love this class with you. Yesterday you went straight up to the teacher (different one this time) and started touching her when we were doing the parachute. Yep, only kid bothering someone else. It was pretty funny. I went to the gym the other day to workout and it got me wanting to do that again (haven’t been since you were born due to dropping you off at the kid’s zone…gross). So another thing we might start doing is visiting the gym. I’ll just have to suck it up and hope you’re okay in there. I don’t know why I think it’s gross in there, but maybe because it’s at a sweaty gym.
Other things I’ve noticed this month:
- You babble much more, specifically ma-ma. You still love yelling primarily.
- You’re a little more attached, wanting me to stay in the playroom with you or checking back to make sure I’m still around when we’re out.
- You have probably consumed a lot of dirt this month…everything that is on the ground goes in your mouth. You also starting grabbing for pebbles in the fireplace and trying to eat them.
- You love dancing with me while I hold you in the living room.
- You’ve had a runny nose the last couple weeks off and on. What did I assume? Yep, teething. What do you still not have? Yep, teeth!
- You started coming over to me where I sit in your play room and wanting me to read you a book. It’s absolutely precious. You’ll sit on my lap and we’ll read about 3 books before you’re off again. Your favorite books so far are “Nursery Rhymes” your Gramma’s sister (Sue) made you, “Mr. Brown Can Moo,” “The Going to Bed Book,” and these books that have a puppet poking through them. Once I say “the end” you start moaning for me to read it again.
- You bump your head or some other body part at least twice a day, and these aren’t tiny falls, these are crying fits because you’ve bumped something.
- Something that made you laugh hysterically this month was a plastic sack being thrown in the air and when it gets close to you, I swat it out of the way. You just die laughing!
- Your thighs are by far the chunkiest things I’ve ever seen. It’s actually really inconvenient when buying you clothes. Nothing fits your legs except size 2T and then the waist is too big and length is way too long. I wish I could just put you in leggings and a shirt, but I won’t do that to you! I have these leg warmers that kind of work, but your dad thinks they look too girly!
- Another adorable thing to see is when your dad gets home from work! You hear the door open and close and you start crawling over frantically to see what it is. When you see him, you have the biggest smile! Then he takes you to go get the mail. It’s super cute!
Measurements: No doctor visit this month, but you weigh about 22 pounds and are wearing mostly 12 month clothes (some 18mo). You’ll probably start to even out a little now that you’re walking. I’m not sure though…the only things that are big on you are your legs, which I feel would get bigger the more you walk, and your head, which isn’t going to shrink due to walking.
My Favorite Thing: It definitely has to be watching you learn to walk! I could list so many other things, but that has to be my favorite this month!
Daily Activities: Lots of eating still. I’m excited about nearing 1 years old and you being able to have more table foods as your meals instead of milk four times a day AND solids three times a day. You play with lots of toys at the house, we go for walks, go to parks, go to the library, run errands almost every day, and play with your friends in the nursery every so often.
Eating: You take four bottles of breast milk a day. Usually 5-7 oz each. You have oatmeal with banana for breakfast and a fruit, veggie, and meat for lunch and dinner. You’re still only eating about 1.5 oz of each per meal (little less meat). I’m trying to give you more solid food to eat on your own, which makes it easier on me as well. I was able to cook the other night while you ate your dinner. It was nice!
Sleeping: Wow! Sleeping is different this month. I swear you are trying to tell me you only want one nap a day, but you’re not quite there yet. It’s almost like you need one and a half naps. You fought your naps and bed time a lot this month. I don’t know if it’s because you’re not tired or you’re just sad we left you. You generally sleep from 8pm-7:30am. If you have two naps that day (which is most days), your bed time is a little later. If you have one nap, you go to bed on time with no fuss and usually sleep in. A couple of mornings you slept till 9:30am (those are definitely one nap days). So needless to say, I think you’re transitioning to one nap, but we’ll keep giving you two until we figure it out!
Special Events:
-Started taking steps on 8/28/12
-Started MOPS nursery 8/10/12
