Have you ever had a month where you haven’t budgeted or even know how much you’ve really been spending? Maybe that’s how you live your life normally, just paying the credit card bill when it’s due (or not). Or maybe you have skipped a month. Or maybe your spouse does it all. Either way…
Every month since we’ve been married, we have written out a budget and kept track of our expenses. Last June, I did a terrible job keeping track of things and honestly just threw it to the wind. I can’t tell you how “off” that made me. I feel so much more in control when I tell my money where to go instead of wonder where it went.
The number one question I get is about budgeting. How to budget. How we paid off our house so quickly on a relatively low income. How I stay home on one salary (teacher). So today I thought I’d share my top 3 financial posts and what’s to come as well. My top 3 posts just happen to each include “5 tips.” Guess that’s the magic number.
{ONE} 5 CRUCIAL TIPS WHEN PAYING OFF DEBT: This is my most popular post and it’s chock full of the most important tips I’d suggest for just being prudent with your money. It’s an updated version of this original post here.{TWO} 5 TIPS FOR LIVING ON ONE INCOME: Living on one income is difficult at times. Financially, it would be easier to add another income to our budget, but logistically (and emotionally) it’s totally worth raising my kiddos full time instead, especially at this age when they’d both be in day care. These 5 things assured us the ability to live on one income and still save for retirement and college.
{THREE} 5 REASONS FOR SAVING MONEY: This really is the heart of why we budget. People work so they can pay for necessities in life. Saving is a necessity in life, but often neglected. These 5 reasons are give our budget purpose and keeps our future secure. If you’re a Believer, the last reason is really encouraging.
Those are some of my favorite posts that I put a lot of time into writing and get good feedback. My last top post was a toss up between the saving post above and this one, which details my #1 budgeting ever. I hope you are encouraged by these types of posts. We are still learning everyday how to be more prudent while joyfully living so please never think we have it all mapped out. 🙂
Please let me know if there is a topic or question you are curious about or would like me to talk about. I have some heavy posts in the works for you soon. One is directed towards high school/college students and the other is a detailed post about how we paid off our house (as detailed as I can get, budget and all).
Hope you have a great week and are enjoying the Olympics! Go U-S-A!

Hi Olivia! Thanks for another financial post! I would love if you did a “top 10 frugal meals” post. I know it might include lots of beans and rice 🙂 but I’d like to see what you make regularly.
