I had to share this as soon as I read it!
I read in Dave Ramsey’s book, “The Total Money Makeover”, that a commonplace marketing scheme is “kid-branding” – targeting our little ones! That is just wrong! Companies will target young kids and teach them that plastic is the best form of payment. For example, Barbie came out with a “Cool Shopping Barbie” doll that had a MasterCard and when she scanned her card in the cash register that came with it, it said, “Credit Approved.” Oh geez! That may seem small, but when kids hear that often enough, they will grow up with the mindset that debt and credit cards is just the way of life.
Yikes! Don’t think this isn’t manipulative. |
We can’t necessarily stop all those companies from targeting our children, but we can educate ourselves with how to teach our children important financial lessons.
This WILL be Beckham one day! |
This is so cute! I wish we thought like kids do – Each coin is precious! |
Where to start?
Dave Ramsey has some excellent tools to help you teach your child, whether they are 3 years old, a teenager, or entering college. The last two age groups are probably the most important as teens are the number ONE target for credit card companies!
She’s happy now, but has no clue! |
This is funny! |
Kids need to know that money comes from WORK! Not hand-outs! You are not entitled to money because you simply don’t have any! How can they earn money at a young age? Chores! I remember selling lemonade and starting a cleaning business (I was like 9…it never went anywhere, but it was a neat idea) 🙂
This is a great way to organize children’s money! |
Check out this website for the tools to help teach your child. We will definitely be buying these soon to teach Beckham how to manage his money! Dave Ramsey is a Christian, so his managing skills are Christian based (tithing)!
