Getting Groceries Under Control: Part 4–Week 3

This month I’m recording everything that has to do with groceries.  To recap, you can read about the previous weeks:  Part 1: The Plan, click HERE.  Part 2: Week 1, click HERE.  Part 3: Week 2, click HERE. Remember, my goal is to spend less than $400 this month, $360 to be exact.  As of last week, I have spend $236.80 so far.
week 3
First of all, below is my menu plan for the week:
Monday: Chicken Tacos
Tuesday: Chicken Pesto Paninis (ended up going out to eat with friends)
Wednesday: Turkey, Baked Potato, Corn on Cob
Thursday: Turkey Noodle Soup w/ Paninis
Friday: Goulash, Salad
Saturday: Leftovers or might go to parents (Ryan gone)
Sunday: Salad/Leftovers

This is my Grocery template I use for each grocery trip.  Remember, the highlighted items are at a different store.  The starred items are items that I’ll get at Walmart when I’m there, but they won’t count towards groceries (they go in other categories), so I purchase them separately when I’m checking out.  I ended up not going to Albertons because I price matched the yogurt at Walmart and got the strawberries at Market Street (skipped out on the watermelon bowl), and the wipes were cheaper at Walmart.  That’s why I like to shop at Walmart first in case their prices are cheaper than the sale price elsewhere, especially on mass produced items.  It usually is.  Notice how most of the items I get elsewhere are produce.
My goal was to stick around $60 this week.

This was our Walmart trip.  Walmart.  I splurged on the next two items below.  Let me just say that those Chobani Flip yogurts are worth every penny!  They cost $1.28, which was kind of a lot, but they were SOOOO good.  My friend Kristen told me about them and I had to try one.  They were kind of high in calorie (230) and sugar, so I’ll look for different kinds, but a really yummy treat.  The Broccoli Littles were good too.  They are more like a side item vs. main dish (as I thought they were), but still pretty yummy (you heat them in oven or microwave).  I’m always trying to find healthy QUICK items to make Beckham for lunches or dinners.
Walmart Total Bill = 59.08

A few sale items from Sprouts.  I like to browse Sprouts for fun and Beckham LOVES their suckers (organic), so it’s good bribery motivation to behave. Grapefruit is one of my favorite things to eat with a little Stevia sprinkled on top.
Sprouts Total Bill = 6.19

This kind of was a wasted trip to Market Street, but I was also looking for the Natural Crystal Light mixtures and thought they might have them.  Anyone know where I can find them?  Anyway, they had 2 lbs. strawberries for $3.77.  I cannot wait for all the produce to go on sale this summer!
Market Street Total Bill = $3.77

TOTAL BILL FOR WEEK 3: $69.04
Not too shabby.  I felt like I kind of splurged on some items at Walmart this week, but that’s what I normally do every now and then so this is a realistic situation.  I think anyone can really cut their grocery bill in half if they eat beans and rice everyday, but who’s going to do that for a month?

TOTAL BUDGET SO FAR: $305.84
This leaves us exactly $54.16 for groceries until February 28, if I want to stay under $360 this month.  We’ll see next week!
