Most of the time I feel weird saying anything exciting about it being Friday because my job doesn’t change much on the weekends 🙂 But at least Ryan will be home and we have some fun shenanigans this weekend. I’ve got a random assortment of favorites today.
{ONE}: Mother’s Day
I never blogged about Mother’s Day but it was a great weekend. Ryan basically took care of the kids all day on Saturday and I was able to sleep in, get coffee, get a mani/pedi, clean the house (yes, I wanted to do that while kids were out of house with Ryan), make M’s birthday invitation, and finish the evening eating Mexican at a restaurant. The next day we went to church and celebrated our own mothers. I love those boys so much!
And this is what Beckham said about me. 4.5 year old Beckham. Love it. Just to note: We’ve never played tennis. 🙂 And he added that I’m mean to him just sometimes…thanks kid, thanks!
{TWO}: GYM & WORKOUTS
I have been consistently going to the gym and was proud of being able to finally do bicep curls with 15’s. I lost a lot of strength the last year or two. The gym has become a favorite again for me now that the kids have fun in the play area. I’m a gym fan and went a lot before kids so this makes me feel a little more “me.” That is also my favorite workout drink…Cellucor’s Watermelon Amino Acids (I mix it with my water about halfway through my workout). It taste delicious!
{THREE}: TRADER JOE’S EASY MEAL
I loved cooking…and then I had kids. I would love to spend a long time in the kitchen creating some good food (I truly love that), but hahahahaha! So I’ve embraced easy, quick meals. I usually don’t make “frozen meals” but remember, I’m embracing it. This meal from Trader Joe’s is awesome and super quick. My friend Ashley told me about this (thanks Ashley). It’s their Mandarin Orange Chicken, found in the frozen section. Simply bake the chicken, toss it in the sauce, serve over rice (we used Jasmine Rice). I also added frozen snap peas that were cooked in the microwave (steamables). The boys love this chicken. They don’t eat the rice and B was the only one who liked the snap peas (Maddox is super picky). It feeds all 4 of us, but if I had 3 kids, especially older and a hungry husband, I’d get 2 bags. The bag costs around $4-5 so it’s a fairly cheap meal.
{FOUR}: A DAY WITH MY MOM
I had the best day on Tuesday when my mom came over. She’s a Kindergarten teacher at a private school and they got out on Tuesday. So she came over to my house mid-morning while the kids were at school. I dropped the kids off, did some grocery shopping, and met her back at my house. As soon as she got there we cleaned the heck out of my house (mainly decluttering). She is so good at getting me to “just do it.” We loaded up the entire back of my car with stuff for a trip to Goodwill. But first we went to lunch in downtown McKinney at one of my favorite places! We both ordered the same sandwich and it was to die for. It had an almond jack cheese and a chutney type spread. My mouth is watering. After lunch we picked up the boys, dropped off stuff at Goodwill, ran another errand (something I needed to return but was so much easier since I could keep kids in car with her), then we grabbed bundt cakes at Nothing Bundt Cakes. We headed home and got to visit some more in the backyard while the kids played. I love spending days with my mom! Look at that deliciousness…
{FIVE}: THIS QUOTE
I have one strong willed child, as a lot of us do. It’s hard. Really hard. Often I do try to “tame” him, but I know this is how God made him and this trait will serve him well in the future. I pray I raise a Godly leader who will also stick up for those who can’t or won’t.
{SIX}: MRS. MEYERS FABRIC SOFTENER
I have never used fabric softener until this year. Is that weird? Anyway, I decided to use this one from Target and I really like it. I couldn’t tell you if it really does anything, but I like it for the scent. We use non-scented wash so I like having a smell. It’s lavender, but oddly it smells like a margarita…and I like it.
{SEVEN}: SALLY HANSEN MIRACLE GEL NAIL COLOR, CREME de La CREME
You know how obsessed I am with nail polish. I just got my manicure from Mother’s Day removed (it was the NextGen nails…I can’t do that stuff too long) and I needed a new color on my nails. I saw this nail polish at the store and as soon as I painted it on my finger, I fell in love. It’s a shimmering pearl color with a hint of pink. It’s so pretty. I don’t normally spend over $2-3 on nail polish but I really wanted to get this. The only thing I don’t like about it is Sally Hansen’s brushes are not my favorite. They don’t allow a great covering in my opinion (I get streaks), but I’m a perfectionist so nobody probably notices. You can kind of tell on my middle finger.
{EIGHT}: VEGGIE FRIES
Y’all, these are so good and my kids LOVE them! I found them at Sprouts. I mentioned Maddox was a picky eater so it’s nice that he will eat these. You bake them in the oven for 15-20 minutes! If you have kids, I’d for sure check these out. They had different kinds as well, but we haven’t tried them. I think you can find these at Whole Foods too.
{NINE}: A SUPER CLEAN TOY STORAGE
I never updated the blog with their new “playroom” but the boys now have all their toys, for the most part, in Beckham’s room. I needed to wipe down the tops of these bookshelves and ended up wiping down all the storage units, inside and out, and every toy with disinfecting wipes!!! Felt good to clean all of that and reorganize at the same time.
{TEN}: YESTERDAY’S BLOG POST
Yesterday’s blog post resonated with a lot of you. It was good to hear from people who have been on both sides of the spectrum. I’d love to move in the future, but I want to embrace and be grateful for the house I’m in now.
I hope you enjoyed some Friday favorites! I’m linking up today with Erika, Andrea, and Narci. Also, I have been working on organizing my blog better. I’ve created tabs at the top with topics and subtopics to make it a bit easier to navigate. Happy Friday!

Thanks Chelsea. I will say that polish stayed on very well with how hard I am on my nails. I just took it off yesterday but it was good quality.

Looks like your Mother’s Day weekend was perfect! I loved beckhams “all about mom” thing. The tennis part is hilarious!! I like how you did Mother’s Day “for you” on Saturday and then celebrated your moms on Sunday. This was my first Mother’s Day and I struggled with wanting to do what I wanted and wanting to celebrate our moms too!
JoyfullyPrudent says
Yes, Ryan and I were talking and decided we would each get a day to do whatever we wanted that day of that weekend. It worked out well.

I love that quote about the strong willed child. My oldest daughter (I have 3 girls 5 and younger) is very strong willed. I’m always trying to find the balance of letting her spirit shine and discipling. It’s a challenge for sure!
JoyfullyPrudent says
Yes, every single day. I am/was strong willed growing up so I’m getting a taste of what my parents did 🙂 My husband is too, so our kids have no chance…lol

That sandwich from Snug!!!! It’s SO good!!
JoyfullyPrudent says
For real! I had it again today when my mom and I went back. I only ordered a half sandwich this time…it’s so filling!

Thanks for the Trader Joe’s recommendation. This will sound like a strange question. Is the chicken included white chicken meat?
JoyfullyPrudent says
I’m not sure exactly…I’d have to look on package, but I actually think it might be dark meat.

And, you MUST try a sandwich at Patina Green. They are nothing short of amazing and most ingredients are locally-sourced.

Umm…why have I not heard of this place? Now that I type that, I think I’ve actually heard that name but I know nothing of it. 🙁
