What a couple of weeks it has been! Baby Snydes decided to show up before his scheduled due date! Here’s what happened:
DAY OF ARRIVAL:
I had a day planned of hair, nails, and decorating my house for Christmas with my mom and mother in law, Glenna. So I go get my hair done and get a pedicure. I go home and start cleaning the house while I wait for them to arrive. As I’m walking around I feel a small gush of “pee.” I thought it was weird, but really didn’t think too much since it wasn’t the typical “water breaking.” So I go to the bathroom and keep cleaning. Oh and mean while, Ryan is on his way to Houston for a college game. As I keep cleaning, it happens again. I’m thinking “no this isn’t happening because Ryan is not here and I’m just not ready, plus I would know if my water broke.” Well after several times of this “peeing on myself” I talk to Glenna, who is now at my house, and she advises me to call my doctor. It was Saturday so it took me quite a while to get a hold of him. In the meantime, I called Ryan and told him what was going on, but that it was probably nothing (he is in Houston at this point). It was about 1:30 when this “peeing” started happening. My biggest fear was to call Ryan back to Dallas only to find out it was nothing. My doctor tells me to go ahead and go to hospital to get checked. As soon as I told Ryan that, he was on his way back to Dallas. So my mom takes me to the hospital, while Glenna stayed behind and cleaned the rest of my house just in case (so sweet). We headed to the hospital around 3:30ish. So we get there, sign paperwork, get checked in, and the nurse checks me. I was leaking amniotic fluid, but she still thought my water had not broken all the way. It seemed like forever that they could tell me anything. Finally, she decided to get the doctor and have him check me. By the time he got in there (6:45ish), he felt no sac (water had broken, just slowly) and was able to feel the baby and vernix (the coating on baby). He said, “well what you think about having a c-section tonight?” I couldn’t believe I was about to have a baby. My first thought was Ryan!!! I asked if we could delay it since he was about an hour out. It was no problem as the prep took that long. Ryan arrived at 7:30 while they were prepping and drugging me. After all that, they wheeled me into the OR at 8:27! Baby Snydes was delivered at 8:46pm! When I heard his cry, it melted my heart! I will never forget that sound and feeling. And yes, we still had no name at this point. Ryan followed him around taking pictures and oohing and awwing over him. It was so neat to see Ryan beaming so much! He weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces and was 19 inches long. I’m glad he came early seeing that he already weighed that much.
We named Baby Snydes 2 days later. We decided Beckham Ryan was it for him! He is just perfect!
RECOVERY
As far as recovery goes, it is the worst thing I’ve ever been through. I stayed in the hospital from Saturday night to Wednesday afternoon. Those 4 days really were not pleasant. We were able to be home for Thanksgiving. I was not expecting that much pain and the length of time it has taken me to get better (which I’m still waiting on). The first time I got up out of bed, I thought someone was in my stomach with a knife cutting their way out. I had aches, no sleep, hot beyond measures, sore, and barely able to move…all while trying to enjoy and take care of a newborn. I don’t know how they expect a mother who has had surgery to take care of an infant. I’ve had a few problems since I got home, and it seems like there is a new problem every two days or so. Fever, aches, extremely weak, and the new one is a stomach bug. My last pain medication was Friday and I could take even more, but don’t want to drug Beckham anymore. I already refilled it once and don’t think I should anymore. Luckily, Ryan has shown his amazing ability as a father and stepped up so much! He has taken such good care of Beckham when I couldn’t. He still does. He does all the diaper changes through the night and hands him to me to feed. He’s amazing! Beckham LOVES his daddy!
BECKHAM
We went to Beckham’s 2 week appointment last Wednesday (was suppose to be a weight check, but they decided to make it his 2 week since we were so close). He is doing great! He is in the 25-50% in weight and height. He’s in the 50-75% for head size. What can I say? He’s got a big brain! 🙂 They pricked his heel which was painful to watch since it took forever for them to get the blood samples. He’s back up to his birth weight, which is good. Of course you wonder if you are doing things right and if your child is getting enough to eat or if your taking care of him properly. After our visit, I feel like we’re doing a good job. He’s doing what he needs to be doing and there are no major problems. We just love him beyond measure and are so blessed to have such a wonderful son!
AMAZING FAMILY AND FRIENDS
I cannot say enough about my family and friends. We have has such amazing support through these tough 2 weeks. My mom and dad have been over several times to help clean and even decorated my house for Christmas, with the help of my brother and his wife. That means so much to me and makes it such a calm and happy place. I cannot even list all the other things they have done for me to help me out! It is good to have them here! My mother in law has also been a huge help. She has come over and cleaned, cooked meals for me, and been here when Ryan is gone (remember it’s basketball season). As a matter of fact, she was here Thursday and cleaned my house and helped take care of Beckham so I could rest and do some other things I need to do. She brought dinner too! My brother has been amazing as well. He’s taken so many pictures of Beckham that I absolutely love! We have had so many friends bring us dinner and visit us. It is such a blessing to know that we have friends who will help and support us in the “adjustment” period. We are so thankful for everyone who has helped us! It has made things so much better. I just pray God heals me quickly, so I can enjoy this time a little bit more…it’s been long enough!
