Every year I write a letter to my children when they have a birthday. This letter is 2 months late if that tells you anything about life right now. I started this when my blog was primarily a family blog and I love looking back at these.
THESE are the letters to Maddox over the years.
Maddox turned 3 on June 25, 2017. We had a birthday party at the splash pad that I documented to share on the blog (easiest party ever), but I’m pretty certain I deleted every picture on my camera of that before we left for Destin. I’m hoping I can recover them some how, but I don’t know. Anyway, here’s a short little letter for you Maddox (tons of pictures at the end).
Dear Maddox,
You are the sweetest kiddo ever. Rarely are you ever in a bad mood (unless you wake up from a nap) and have the biggest open mouth smile. Everyone that meets you says they “just love you.” You are my sweetheart.
You are a cuddle bug and want to be held a lot. You are the “gentle giant.” You’re about a head taller than most kids in your preschool class and are one size smaller than your older brother (who’s 2.5 years older)…you wear a size 11-12.
Speaking of stats, you are 40 pounds 2 ounces (95%) and 3ft. 4.5in. (98%). You’re pretty big! I’m certain you will surpass Beckham in elementary some time.
You are a pretty picky eater, rarely trying new things ever. Having your brother eat stuff and knowing his “muscles are going to get bigger” helps you a bit, but you don’t eat a variety of stuff. You like sugary foods and breads.
You play with toys amazingly and independently. This may seem normal, but your older brother is much more of a social play kind of kid (always needing a friend to play with), so having you sit down with toys and play easily is a welcomed trait! You give hugs and are such a sweet hearted 3 year old.
I don’t get embarrassed with you often in public and you are easily distracted from a stressful situation (or tantrum). I will say there was a stretch of time where you threw these epic fits…fits I just didn’t even know how to calm you down from. And they were usually over something you wanted to do independently (like dress yourself), but couldn’t. Luckily, you haven’t done that in a while.
You and I are about to spend some one on one time as Beckham is going off to Kindergarten. I can’t tell you how excited I am to have this time with you. And you’re about to welcome a little sister into your life. I’m not sure how you’ll react, but you seem excited so far. You’re a full on mama’s boy, so I’m hoping you adjust well.
I just started cutting your hair as you’ll now sit still for me. You no longer sit in any type of mobile seat (stroller, cart, etc) because brother is always walking or sitting in the big part of the cart. You grew up fast. You haven’t been in a high chair since probably before you turned 2.
And speaking of brother, you two are typical brothers. Attached at the hip, but fight all the time. You really do look up to him and he’s the typical leader, while you’re the peace-maker. You’re a master Lego maker because of him and jumped right into big kid toys as you’ve always wanted to keep up with him.
You moved into his room this year and now you both share a bunk bed. These years will be special sharing a room. And you are fully potty trained now. You were pretty easy to “train” and I rarely ever had to help you. You did that about 2 months before you turned 3.
I just love you to pieces and am so blessed that God gave me you as my second born!
Love,
Mommy
