Umm HOLY COW, this post has been sitting in my “drafts” for a couple months now. I’m not sure what I was waiting to do, but I decided to finally post this. My blog is my scrapbook at this stage in my life, so I really need to have this up. Clearly, I’m not doing a monthly post for him from now on. I think my #oliviaeveryday2014 posts are becoming quite handy in taking over the documenting of our lives. We’ll see about new baby! I typed this letter on his 2nd birthday, November 19, 2013.
Dear Beckham,
Today you turn 2 and I’m super excited for you. You are absolutely a huge part of my heart! I love you too much! I’m not going to say the time has flown by because I haven’t missed out on anything! I’ve been able to spend the last 2 years (minus 3 months) at home full time with you. I’ve only been away from you for one night and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
I always told your daddy that once we had kids I would finally have some company when he was gone during basketball season and it’s been great company. Don’t get me wrong, some nights I’m counting down the minutes till bed time, but I love you buddy and love hanging out with you everyday! Last time I wrote you, you were 19 months! It’s safe to say you have entered the “terrible twos.”
I absolutely think you’re adorable, but when you don’t get your way, you become this tiny human that makes me want to give you whatever you want out of fear of what you will do. First it starts off with a loud, angry scream. Then you find the nearest object to throw or hit. Then you cry and sometimes throw yourself on the floor for dramatic affect. It’s quite embarrassing. Other than that, you’re a doll 🙂
Your understanding of us is unbelievable. I can talk to you like any adult and you’ll understand what to do. Your vocabulary is increasing daily. You even came home from school one day and when I asked you about your friends in school, you said, “Max.” It was really cute. You’re really good at saying “no no mommy” or “no no daddy.”
You know colors, almost every letter in the alphabet (some sounds they make too), and you are just starting to count. You definitely know what “two” represents (two objects). You love singing songs. This is my saving grace during diaper changes. You know all the motions to Wheels on the Bus and ask to sing it a lot. Your favorite colors are blue, yellow, and red. You point them out everywhere we go!
Both your gross and fine motor skills are impressive to me. You have been active since before you turned 1. You learned how to jump a couple months ago and have to jump everywhere we go now, especially over the bumps. The way you manipulate toys is very intricate. You love Legos, even those really tiny ones. We’ve been kicking a soccer ball for a while, but I’m going to start teaching you how to dribble in and out of cones. You WILL be a stud on the soccer field.
Your curly hair is officially out of control. It wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t frizzy. We’re actually going to get it cut tomorrow (just a tiny bit). You also have a wonderful set of pearly whites. You get a lot of good comments on your teeth! You also had your first real sickness a couple weeks ago. You had croup. It was awful. I felt so bad. We have been blessed with your health…yay for breastfeeding!
Oh and your favorite thing to do is take my phone and go through every image and video and watch them. You don’t even play apps anymore, you go straight to the camera and spend forever on it. You also throw your biggest fits when I take it away from you. People always stare like I have no control over you when this happens…well, I don’t 🙂
Here are some photos of you the last few months!
I will also FINALLY post his “Fall” birthday themed party! It was cute and I’ve been meaning to post for a while.
