Dear Beckham,
This entire summer I’ve been debating putting you in a 2-day MDO/Pre-school. Summer went by and I just decided that I would look into it later once Spring was here and you were officially 2 years old. Well, a day after the official Pre-School start date, I decided, there were more benefits to signing you up. I called a local church that was highly recommended just to see if they had a spot (assuming they would not). To my luck, they had two openings. I decided to throw you in the car and swing by the church to take a visit. I pretty much knew beforehand I wanted to do this, but after meeting the directors and seeing everything, I was already dropping by the doctor’s office to pick up your shot records so you could start the next day! One backpack, one lunch box, one nap mat, and lots of paperwork later and you were off to PRE-SCHOOL! I made this sign the night before and love the way it turned out!
Yes, that is chocolate in your hand at 8:45 AM. On the drive there I got a LITTLE teary eyed thinking “He has no clue he is not about to be with me till this afternoon.” We’ve been together all day everyday and I was nervous. We walked in, handed off the paperwork, walked through the herd of happy children, and when we got to your room, I’m pretty sure you forgot I was there! You walked in with your little back pack on and started “talking” to the other boys. I was very happy you were not crying though!
I went home and was sad for about 5 minutes. Then I cleaned the ENTIRE house, updated our budget, and worked on signs/orders. I even forgot to eat lunch before I realized it was time to go get you. I did think about you all day, wondering what you were doing, if you would actually sleep on your nap mat, and if the teachers were glad the new kid came to their class. I was excited the whole drive there.
I get to your door and the first thing you say is “dada!” Umm okay! Actually this is pretty normal. You will say whoever’s name is NOT with you. Here’s what they said about you:
-“I want to take him home with me right now.”
-“He slept like a champ. He slept the longest.” – What?! I totally didn’t think you would fall asleep on an open mat.
-“He’s so sweet.”
-“He communicates really well” and on and on about things you “said.”
Here we are leaving! I forgot to get a picture of you and your teachers, so I’ll get that soon! You love your Elmo back pack!
And we were off to play together for the rest of the day! Starbucks for mommy, Hobby Lobby for some craft supplies to make a Fall wreath for your birthday, and then home to swim! When we got home, I noticed you had a folder with your work from the day, a note about how you did, a schedule of your day, and notes for me. I’m such a nerd, but I actually really love this part! You “decorated” it with a couple stickers. Here you are showing me your folder:
It was a perfect day. You were in bed at 8:00pm and out by 8:10! That is amazing since you usually fall asleep around 10 every night! I have a peace about my decision and am excited you get to have a little “school” time without me. Here’s to a great year! I love you buddy!
Love,
Mama
