1 Year Old! |
Where did our baby go? I’ll have you know that your tongue is hanging out in 90% of the pictures I take of you now. |
Dear Beckham,
I cannot believe it has been a whole year! It is seriously one of the best years of my life. You have brought us so much joy and are making this parenting thing ROCK! I’m writing this a little over a week late. Ooops…let’s just say you’re down to one nap now and very clingy lately.
This month you cut your second tooth. Your top two teeth are screaming to come through, but haven’t physically cut the gum yet. Your smile is so stinkin cute and I know it will be even cuter with your top teeth! You teethe fairly well, but have had some fussy spells throughout the day.
Beckham, you are such a character! I share lots of videos and pictures of you and so many people make comments about your personality and how you make them laugh. Of course, as your mom, I think you’re funny, but I guess you really are if others are saying it. I love when you knowingly do things to make me laugh (give me the look, go where you’re not supposed to and look back at me with a grin, flex, do this soft yelling thing mimicking me, spitting bubbles).
So, I’ll have to say that the biggest change this month is your clingyness. You want to be with me, by me, or in my arms pretty much all day! If you play in your playroom, I have to be in there, and most likely with you on my lap reading a book. You’ve always been really independent so it’s weird, but I do love it that you love me so much right now! Makes for some really productive days (hear the sarcasm?). Your dad refs basketball and since it’s officially during season, it’s just you and me ALL day, majority of the week!
We celebrated your birthday with a baseball party. It was so much fun and I really enjoyed throwing the party! You LOVED your cake. You were shy with it at first and then stuffed it in your mouth!
Other things about you this month:
- You wave bye-bye. I’m pretty sure you have said it too!
- Saying “mama” and “dada” appropriately. You’re saying mama A LOT, but I’m with you all day.
- You run away from us now when we’re coming to get you from something you’re not supposed to be in…as you laugh. You’re pretty fast too.
- You kick everything that is on the ground. You also use your feet to open and close the pop up toys.
- You randomly cry around certain strangers. I can’t pin point what it is.
- You dribble the soccer ball! By far one of the greatest things. You even put your foot on top of the ball trying to roll it. You’ve seen me do this, but you can’t quite roll it yet.
- You understand so many more words and commands.
- You love drinking through a straw, but NO sippy…ugh!
- Every time I sing “You are my sunshine,” I get teary eyed. You love listening to us sing!
- You would spend all day outside if you could!
Measurements: Weight – 23lbs. 8oz. (75%). Height – 29 inches (50%). Head – 19.1in (90%). You’re in 18 month clothing. You’ve actually thinned up a little since you’re walking so much (and refusing your milk…keep reading).
My Favorite Thing: When we go to the store and are getting back into the car, I sit down with you in the back seat as you face me and we just sit there together as you look outside. It’s like you’re hugging me, listening to me talk to you about what you’re seeing. You love looking around outside, so it’s such a sweet CALM time with you. I guess that’s why I like it, because you don’t snuggle or sit still in my lap, unless I’m reading to you.
Daily Activities: Destroying the house, getting into thing you KNOW you’re not supposed to; Library; Errands; Random play dates; and I just took you to the gym Kid’s Zone today, which I plan on being a 2-3 times a week activity. I’ve been fretting this for a while now. You did cry when I left, but I peeked in and saw you playing so I guess you were ok. Although you were crying when I got back…???
Eating: Oh dear heavens, eating! This is tough for me for some reason. You are officially on organic cow’s milk. Supposedly, you should be transitioning to a sippy cup, instead of a bottle. If your milk is in the sippy, you throw it on the floor. If water is in your sippy, you drink it. ??? If milk is in the bottle, you drink every last drop. So we’ll see. The hard part though is coming up with things to feed you. You don’t like meat (spit it out or throw it on the floor) or avocado. You LOVE fruit and bread. I still have to puree your veggies. And you love beans!
Sleeping: You sleep 12-13 hours a night, about 8pm-8am. You take one nap during the day around 11am. It usually lasts 1.5-2.5 hours. I’m missing your two naps as it’s tough to get anything done in that amount of time. But I can’t complain because you sleep so well at night.
